Tougher laws for chiropractors
March 14, 2007

(Hartford-WTNH) - A bill under consideration would ensure that all malpractice cases involving chiropractors be reported publicly.

Currently, chiropractors are not subjected to the same scrutiny as medical doctors. The legislation is a result of the efforts of a Woodbridge woman who suffered a stroke after having her neck manipulated by a chiropractor.

"The provider I went to had a huge malpractice claim. It would have put a red flag because I was just seeing him for a sore shoulder, and as a result of the treatment I had a stroke and will be permanently disabled for the rest of my life," said Brittmarie Harwe.

Harwe wants more information to be available so that people seeking treatment can make an informed decision.
