VOCA Victims of Chiropractic Abuse

VOCA is working to get a law passed that would require chiropractors and any other health care providers that do neck manipulations to provide information to the patient. We feel very strongly that chiropractors should inform all of their patients about the risk of stroke, no matter how rare they may think it is. If the patient decides they still want to have their neck adjusted after being fully informed then the chiropractor should give a patient a discharge summary, just like you receive after minor surgery, a colonoscopy or even a flu shot.

The discharge summary would have the signs of an impending stroke on it with instructions to seek immediate medical care. Since a stroke can occur hours, days, even weeks after an adjustment the information in the discharge summary could save a life or lessen the likelihood of permanent disability. The discharge summary could also be used to show medical personnel so that they would know what to look for and take their symptoms seriously.

Please take the time to email your state Senator and state Representative to ask for their support. When you contact your legislator be sure to mention that you are a constituent.
